Description
Lens manufacturer Sigma has introduced a new lens to its Art range of premium optics that it claims is the fastest 20mm in the world. The new 20mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art is designed for full frame cameras and will be available in mounts for Canon EF, Nikon F and Sigma models. The latest in a line of wide angle lenses from Sigma, the company claims the 20mm F1.4 is the result of new production technologies developed through the experience of its engineers. In particular the new lens uses a 59mm double aspherical element that Sigma says is traditionally very difficult to make.
The lens is said to perform exceptionally well even when used at the widest aperture settings, with the company declaring it has minimized common issues with such wide apertures in short focal length lenses. Using two FLD and five SLD elements, the construction is designed to combat lateral chromatic aberrations, while the double aspheric is intended to maintain accurate drawing and Sigma's Super Multi-Layer Coating keeps flare under control.
A HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) is used to drive the lens' focusing module quickly and quietly, while a nine-bladed iris diaphragm aims to produce attractive out-of-focus highlights. The lens measures 90.7 x 129.8mm/3.6 x 5.1in and weighs 950g/33.5oz.
